Can the universe forgive you...

I was doing some reading lately about reaching your potential, stepping away from your mistakes, harnessing the "power" of the universe...and I thought the reading was not too far from my Christian beliefs. Of course there was no mention of Christ, but more the energy of love, power of creation, force of intelligence that created all we know of life. And for the most part I was okay with a lot of it. But then this morning as I was reading the thought came to me...who then forgives you when you feel you need redemption. And I believe most people at some point in their lives feel the need to have the slate wiped clean and experience forgiveness. So who in the Universe forgives you when you reach for redemption. Quantum physics has no formula for that. Science may be able to give you a theory on how the universe came to be, but they can't tell you why it exists. What can science really say about the nature of the life, our purpose. That is a philosophical/theological question. Science can't tell us why we are here, only God can. And the why is what our lives are really all about. The natural laws of nature go about their business of seasons, growth and death, they have no personal interest in the needs of your soul.  And certainly other people can grant you forgiveness if you have wronged them, but sometimes you need to know your wrongs have been righted on the deepest level. And that they have been wiped clean from the pages of your life. Truly a new beginning. You, a new creation. And the universe, nor nothing in it can do that for you. And I think many folks know that. How they deal with it is both familiar for the most part and peculiar to a few. So for me that is the part of this drama when Christ walks on stage. And His role is pivotal. He is the creator and He alone can patch up His creation. The universe, our planet, the stars, human beings are all created, they have a lifespan, a beginning and an end. If we need help with our souls, we need to reach higher than that which has been created..We need the Creator. His mystery and eternal majesty are all around us. We glimpse it in nature, unselfish people, our heroes, our loved ones, and the simple beauty that catches our eye and reminds us of a long forgotten Eden. Some folks see it more regularly than others. But it is there, whether we acknowledge or not. And it is for everyone that seeks it. The universe and all of nature are indeed wondrous creations, but they are subject to the  laws of life and death. All of life needs redemption, it is the next step in our evolutionary climb. And Christ showed us that in terms we humans could understand. He gave His life for us. So that we live gloriously, eternally, overcoming the Laws of Nature, in part while will we live and totally we when die. And He will do this for us over and over again. As many times as we need Him too.

“To beget is to become the father of: to create is to make… What God begets is God; just as what man begets is man. What God creates is not God; just as what man makes is not man. That is why men are not Sons of God in the sense that Christ is. They may be like God in certain ways, but they are not things of the same kind. They are more like statues or pictures of God (p. 157-8).” Mere Christianity by C.S. Lewis
